“ Can you paint a ceiling?” Marc asks. “How big?” 14× 24 feet. Why not I thought to myself. It’s just a wall turned upside down, right? The clients wanted a mural on the ceiling of Carlyn’s home office. She wanted her school colors ( burgundy and gold), he wanted a trellis that incorporated the lighting. That was basically my only criteria. The really fun part came at the end when I was able to paint birds, butterflies and stained glass. Carlyn suggested magpies, I was dying to paint magpies. How lucky was that. Over the stovepipe I painted a magpie that had presumably snatched one her favorite necklace. My favorite aspect of this mural is at five in the afternoon, the sky in the mural matches the real sky and the painted clouds have a pinkish orange glow of dusk.
I would also like to add a huge thank you to my mural painting teacher Janet Shearer for her advise.

Client Comment:
“When I saw Brenda’s work, I knew immediately that she was the right one to paint our mural. The realism in her paintings is incredible, and that’s what we wanted for Carlyn’s office. We didn’t want to control her or the design. It was her style and talent that we wanted for our space, so we let her ‘go’ with it so she could let her talent come through. We were impressed with her work ethics and extremely happy with our ceiling mural. We are so glad that she was part of our ‘dream team’.”
