I sometimes believe I became a still life painter, because I really love food. Juicy fruits, colorful vegetables, glasses of wine, I adore all of these earthly gastronomical pleasures, so it is only natural that I am moved to paint them. One of my other great loves in life is foreign travel, the more exotic the better. My still lifes are often filled with objects I drag home with me from far away places. I have made a point to continually study art and improve my skill level. I have chosen mostly independent study with teachers that I admire greatly and have always found this path to be very inspirational. I’ll always remember what one of my very favorite teachers once told me after a frustrating day of painting and he used Rembrandt as an example, when he declared “Brenda, you need to keep painting until your worst is good enough”
